the answer would obviously be yes. A sharp, flying piece of metal would definitely kill. For a deer probably not instantly and for a bird, it's overkill. Throwing knives are probably not meant to hunt with...

In our dojo, we train in blade-to-blade combat, empty hand versus a knife, and other combinations. I don't recommend throwing a knife, from ten feet, from twenty feet, or from any distance in combat unless one has a second knife to use. Otherwise one is giving one's opponent a weapon.You might have misunderstood the discussion above about throwing knives within ten feet. That's merely for learning to control the spin.

In this case, knife throwing is for target practice, not combat.

Inside ten feet, why would you EVER throw a knife and risk a miss (not to mention risk your opponent picking up YOUR weapon)? Why not just train to deal blade-to-blade?
