They give it to one person in competitions so they can distinguish who is blue corner and who is red corner.

Actually, bjj is not just about subs. If you suck at getting positioning you probably will never be in a good position to sub. BJJ is a complete grappling system (although there is lack of emphasis by most schools for takedowns) that deals with maintaining and escaping positions, defending against losing positions, gaining favorable positions and yes, submissions and submission defense.

Wrestling isn't better or worse. What wrestling has evolved into is about positioning control. BJJ is all about subs. Wrestling as most people know it doesn't use many so in something like the ADCC a pure wrestler can't do much more than hold off submission attempts.
