The Seekers - The Carnival Is Over.(1968)

From their farewell concert in London July 7 1968."The carnival is over"And their carnival was really over. Not until 1993 did they get together again with Judith as a lead singer. They then more or less performed concerts together until 2004.But the years are moving on for all of us and they have retired for good now as a group after having their last tour summer of 2004.Their last ever concert was in Hong Kong 8th October 2004.The only performing members of The Seekers now is Keith Potger and Judith Durham. But they will never be forgotten by us that love their music. Some news:Judith performed in Melbourne now december 1 and she will release a new CD sometime next year.(2008)
There is a delay in the release of
Judiths CD and it will not be released
before sometime in 2009.

Latest news:Judith performed a wonderful two hours concert with The Queensland Orchestra in Brisbane on June 28 2008.It's reported that Judith was in glorious voice.
Afterwards she talked to the fans and signed autographs.

The lyrics for "The Carnival is over" was written by Tom Springfield and the melody is based on a old Russian folk song.
Judith had to put up a real fight to get
this song recorded as the boys rather would
record another song called "Hummingbird"
instead. But she got her will and it was
recorded first time in 1965.At it's peak this single record was selling 93,000 copies a day in the UK.

I almost hesitate to admit this, but I've been sitting for the past seven and a half hours, mesmorized, listening to the Seekers over and over again. They brought so much beauty into the world and those of us fortunate enough to be aware of it are in a way, blessed. You are way ahead of most of the rest of us who can only look and listen in wonder. Thank you for sharing what you have of the Seekers and thank you for your reply.

And could you believe she has had trouble with her lungs all her life and at times it leaves her breathless? Her voice releases so much emotion that it's said that men that have not cried for 50-60 years cry like little boys at her concerts.

It is a privilege to experience the glory of Judith Durham's voice, which has been described as angelic, clear, beautiful, fantastic, etc. It is certainly all those things; but to literally draw out emotion as evidenced here and especially with Waltzing Matilda, a voice has to be something more. It has to soar. It has to rise to epic proportions. And don't overlook her technique. You'll never hear her gasp for air as so many singers do today, thereby ruining the mood. It's about professionalism.
