a server on os x is built in just go to system settings and then screen sharing it is fairly intuitive from there

yes, but since connections aren't 100% effective it'll lag. But VNC can be though of as you controlling a robot sitting in front of another computer.

it's free and it's for windows and for machintosh ;)

tightvnc (as server) works pretty flawlessly.
..as far as client goes, no idea. i use a mac.
