Zero best until the Merlin equipped Mustand...I don't think so. How about the F6F Hellcat, F4U Corsair. Both could outperform a Zero in all ways, and also a P-38 flown properly was a match for a Zero. THe Zero had no self sealing fuel tanks and was extremely lightly armored. A Hellcat or Corsair could absorb a terrific pounding and still fly.

Dauntless was better liked by pilots than the Helldiver...designated SB2C...and it's pilots said that stood for Son-of-A-Bitch Second Class.

Wonder how the JU-87 would have compared to theSBD Dauntless under the same conditions. Granted they were used in very different circumstances. I do know the SBD could defend itself better. Were JU-87s ever used on carriers...although Germany never did build a carrier I don't believe. Comments!
