ju jutsu, judo.. etc, in its very earliest forms, were meant for dislocating pursuers or opponents as well as kill. example: a ankle lock or arm bar lock nowadays becomes like a submission move, but in the old days, the techniques had no restrictions, they were fully applied with full force.

karate describes a number of Okinawan martial arts and their derivatives. Gong fu describes a number of Chinese martial arts and Ju Jutsu describes a number of Japanese unarmed fighting arts. Some schools were trained by the samurai, some were trained by everyday people, some focus a lot on grappling with throws and locks and some atemi and others focus in strikes with punches, kicks and some throws, looking more like Karate. So no, they are not really connected.
