Maestro, I'll say, Kenton studied under the great maestro Maurice J Ravel. Kenton was also a leader in introducing Jazz into many college programs, many of these programs are still active today

I always read about how white he was with his West Coast "Cool" style of jazz-but he has such a repetiore incl. historic works like his rendition of "West Side Story" and works spanning many different interpretations of jazz&influence on other artists, that he appears to be a Maestro in his own right. I like his works with Christy and O'Day&few other peices here and there, most Kenton seems too far fetched for my taste. But I have a lot of respect for his profound art.
