However, then again, it all depends on the school you train at. Just like it depends on the gym you train at for MMA. Some gym's focus more on striking then grappling while others teach the basic strikes and focus on more advanced grappling, same with TKD schools, you will get a lot of mcdojo's because it is popular, but also will find schools that ADD a versatile element, such as joint-locking and grappling. And not FOR SPORT. For self-defense, because that is what martial arts are for, right?

The reason the MMA fighter one, is look at the weight. Look how much bigger he is, than the TKD guy. The mma's ground game WAS NON-EXISTENT. HE JUST PICKED UP THE TKD GUY AND SLAMMED HIM. If the TKD guy knew nothing of ground-fighting, then the MMA guy should have been able to easily submit him with a simple kimura! Ever see the first couple of UFC's? Royce KILLED his opponents on the ground, BY SUBMITTING THEM. Not by slamming them. Both fighters were very poor AT EVERYTHING.

Define MMA. You are not talking about a system. Your MMA goes by rules. It is NOT versatile. It's the same thing. When people say MMA no one thinks of actual artists that MIX martial arts such as Judo, and Karate, but just a system of mediocre kickboxing skills and mediocre BJJ skills rolled into one. Taekwondo DOES involve ground fighting, and grappling. AND DOES take advantage of human anatomy and ALL vital points of the body, most vital points are in the middle, the eyes, the groin etc.

the only kind of fighting style that is truly versatile is mixed martial arts. that is why the mma fighter won. only the best purists of any art can beat a decent mma fighter
