it came from hip hop, but isn't a part of hip hop culture. when you say rap, you're saying a rapper and drum machine. when you say hip hop you're saying mc, dj, break dancing, graffiti, the way you dress, the way you talk. rap came to be when record producers thought it'd be cheaper to just pay mc's to rhyme to a machine without a dj. but when you had a hip hop show back in the 70's, the dj was the show. the mc was just there to get the crowd particiaption.
