After the incident, Butler and Ozbourne gave up any interest in witchcraft. The vision terrified Butler. The song doesn't promote satanism or witchcraft. If anything, it is more of a warning. The song and band name come from a 1963, Italian Horror film. The band wanted a sound that would set them apart. One night, after watching crowds outside a horror movie, they decided that sounding like a horror film would sell, because people will line up to be scared. Satanism? No. Smart marketing? Yes!

I know this story has been posted a million times, but here goes. Geezer begins experimenting with witchcraft, paints his apartment black, hangs inverted crosses. Ozzy brings over a book on witchcraft, Geezer becomes facinated by book. One night, he places book on shelf. He Wakes up, has the vision, big black shape, eyes of fire etc. He almost craps himself, looks for the book, the book is gone. He tells Ozzy the story. Ozzy writes the lyrics, Iomi plays the Tri tone riff. Boom! Masterpiece!
