I was doing a little research for a children's book and I came across this. I used to watch Sheriff John as a kid in the 60's! (FYI: Hobo Kelly's on Youtube too!) You know, maybe another local show like Sheriff John could work, I don't know. I remember that all kids; black, white, latino, asian; EVERYONE watched the Sheriff (and wrote him.) And he read letters from kids of any race, it didn't matter. He cared about everyone. I miss him.

I just had my 59th birthday and the family sang "Put another candle on my birthday cake...." I almost cried. Thanks so much for posting this

I don't understand why stations took off the Sheriff Johns, Texas Bruces, Corky the Clowns, Captain 11s, Bozos, and Romper Rooms. Did children stop appreciating hosts who cared about them? No, they didn't. We knew that thanks to Fred Rogers and Bob Keeshan.

Put it down to greed, and a cynical, supercilious, hatred of "corn", heart, magic, and love for children just for who they were.

All we have left is Krusty on THE SIMPSONS, a sad parody of a lost golden age of afternoon television.

Yet another great memory! I remember this from when I was something like two or three years old living in Los Angeles back in the '60s.
Thank you!
